Edfu

Edfu, a city on the west bank of the Nile in Egypt, is the home to the incredible Temple of Horus, one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in Egypt. This grand temple, dedicated to the falcon god Horus, is a spectacle of ancient Egyptian architecture. As you wander through its colossal sandstone walls, you'll find yourself transported back to the time of the Pharaohs, with intricate hieroglyphics and carvings narrating tales of gods and pharaohs. Look up into protected corners and bright blue and vivid yellow paint remains, untouched by the eons.

The city itself is a blend of the old and the new, with bustling markets and quiet streets lined with traditional houses. A visit to Edfu isn't complete without a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, the local mode of transport. As you clip-clop through the city, you'll get a glimpse of everyday life in this part of Egypt. From the vibrant souks selling everything from spices to souvenirs, to the locals going about their day, Edfu offers a slice of authentic Egyptian life.
